Are you a fractional consultant who has considered running public-facing sessions as a way to pick up work, but not sure where to start? Do you have any specialist knowledge or experience you think could help others in a workshop or presentation format? Would you like to test-run a workshop or webinar in a safe space?
If the answer to any of the above is yes, then the FCC Lunch and Learn event series is for you.
What is the FCC Lunch and Learn?
The FCC Lunch and Learn is a new series of knowledge-sharing events for FCC members. It is a great way for you to share your knowledge with members of the group about something you know about, whilst building your profile internally within the group.
You can think of this as the old rope comedy night for fractionals:
The Old Rope is a comedy show which features up-and-coming comedians trying out new material. It is renowned for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This is the loose equivalent for fractionals looking to try running workshops, presentations or new material.
Who should do this?
This event series is suitable for the following people:
Anyone who would like to start running workshops or giving presentations but is unsure where to start
Anyone who feels they have a lot of information that could help potential clients, but lacks the confidence or knowledge of how to wrap that into a workshop or public presentation
Anyone who would like to build profile within a niche sector, or become known for a particular specialist area but is not currently offering workshops or sessions
Ultimately, if you are looking for ways to build your pipeline, find more leads, build your profile or win work then offering free workshops and sessions can be a way to do it. If you’re not sure where to start or you lack the confidence and experience of doing this, or you just want to test some new material or reach a new audience, this could be a place to start.
Do I need a fully formed workshop or presentation?
Not at all. If you have not yet prepared your workshop or presentation and are not sure which parts of your experience or knowledge will be the most useful, we can put together a brainstorming session with a few other members for you to bounce ideas around for your first workshop. Then of course you can iterate from there.

FAQ
What kind of material is acceptable?
Anything that you feel would be of interest to your potential clients is something that we would recommend offering as a workshop or presentation.
What if I’ve never created a workshop or given a presentation before and don’t know where to start?
In this case you can just run an open roundtable session on your subject and use it as an opportunity to find out what people would want to learn about a specific topic - then create a workshop from there.
When will my event happen?
We can be relatively flexible and run this most days, as soon as next week or several months out as per your preference.
How do I know how many people will turn up?
Ultimately, you don’t. You should not approach this with massive expectations of a big audience, it may happen, it may not. This in itself is a good way to test how interesting your subject matter is. We have run events with 100+ and run events with 2-3. If you consider this as a way to gain experience and test new material then that is our recommendation for how to approach.
If you do not want a massive amount of people you can set a limit.
Can I promote outside of the FCC?
Absolutely, if you would like to.
Can I run multiple workshops or presentations?
Absolutely, we have no hard limit on this, though we may well need to change this in the future.
Can I have the names and details of the people that sign up?
If you would like to then we can include an ‘opt in’ button on the event so that you can follow up with those that attend. However, given Linkedin is fully GDPR compliant, they would usually recommend using a google doc to capture Linkedin profiles for those who attend the event and using Linkedin to do the follow-ups in the first instance.
If I submit, what happens next?
You’ll be contacted by someone from RecWorks who will discuss what will happen next.
